Hill 424 – Three Medals of Honor Earned

No parking lot or visitor center at this hilltop…where three Medals of Honor were earned. We made our own parking spot, and considered the rocky perch where the sturdy Texans of the 36th Division needed more than cowboy swagger to repel ferocious German counterattacks on “Black Monday” September 13, 1943.

Hiking around this craggy hilltop epitomizes the “boots on the ground” experience you’ll enjoy beyond museum entries and monument photo ops.
